Q: Could coaching help me?

Q: What is usually required of me as a client?
A: Contact me with any questions, make an appointment, show up as scheduled or cancel according to policy, pay at time of service, talk, listen, collaborate, do any agreed-upon homework to give yourself a true chance to succeed!

Q: There are so many different types of “therapists” out there. What kind of helping professional shall I choose?
A: It can be confusing to customers since there is sometimes overlap among helping professionals’ services. If you are in need of psychiatric medication or hospitalization, I advise you, without delay, to see a psychiatrist or else your family physician for diagnoses, treatment, or referrals.  Go to your nearest emergency room or call 911 in an emergency or call your county mental health crisis line. In some cases a psychologist may be able to help you. Psychologists typically assist with matters of the mind, thought, emotion, and the behaviors, disturbance, and unhappiness that result from  deficits or disorders in these aspects of yourself.  Social workers, as the term implies, assist with your relationships within your family, with your personal partner, with your connection to your peer group or with society in general. They may connect you with community resources or do psychotherapy as well.  For a great definition of counseling, I recommend www.counseling.org. A Health or Wellness Coach may help you manage chronic health conditions and improve your performance or sense of well-being. A Spiritual Counselor may assist you in soul work, connecting with a higher power, and practicing disciplined techniques to unification with spirit. Life and Career Coaches  often work with people who are basically healthy, do not have a diagnosable disorder or are managing it well, and want someone to advise them and provide practical assistance to facilitate their achieving their goals and objectives.

Q: What about certification and license?
A: As a Counselor, Rose is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the State of Oregon (Lic. # 4267) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with New York State (Lic. # 001466).

As of this writing, Life Coaches are not required to be licensed in the States of Oregon or New York State. This writer knows of no U.S.  states where such licensure is now required. Some life coaches are certified by various organizations, having taken a few hours, or much longer, training. Anyone can call themselves a life or career coach even without training. Rose Mary A. Colorafi gleans certain specific knowledge and principles from her own seasoned life experiences and her degrees in psychology and counseling to assist her clients. Her board certifications and licensure are in counseling, a related field.
